Position Summary:
The Periodicals Librarian has responsibility for the direct
management of services and functional operations associated with the
Periodicals Department in its automated environment. The incumbent
participates with colleagues in the development and implementation of the
Libraries' diverse service programs and contributes as a member of the
University of Evansville faculty.
Responsbilities and Duties:
- Manages all service and operational activities associated with the Periodicals Department
which includes setting priorities, implementing policies and procedures, and assuring
operational effectiveness and efficiency.
- Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and schedules paraprofessional staff as well as
student assistants assigned to the unit.
- Plans, initiates, and coordinates activities associated with the management of information
resources in serial format.
- Participates as a member of the Collection Development Committee on matters pertaining to the enrichment of information resources. Focuses on the development and assessment of periodicals in all formats.
- Coordinates the operation of a Periodicals public service desk which encompasses services associated with periodicals including microformats, viewing and reproduction equipment, and photocopiers.
- Oversees the maintenance of the periodicals collection including the receipt and check-in of issues utilizing an automated online system (NOTIS), claiming activities, binding operations, and stacks management.
- Prepares reports, statistics, and analyses as requested.
- Provides reference and research assistance at a centralized reference desk on a rotational basis including evenings and weekends.
- Participates in the Libraries' Instruction Program.
- Participates in the planning and decision-making processes of the University Libraries.
- Serves on University Libraries and University Faculty committees as
appointed, elected or requested.
- Maintains a strong level of professional engagement, professional
development, and scholarly activity.
